International actors framing the promotion of medicines

International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers & Associations - IFPMA
IFPMA is a non-profit, non governmental organization representing industry associations from both developed and developing countries. Member companies of the IFPMA are the major global research-based pharmaceutical and vaccine companies.

An updated version of the IFPMA Code of Pharmaceutical Marketing Practices entered into force on 1 January 2007. The new Code, whose applicability extends to every country and is required of all IFPMA members, imposes even stricter and clearer requirements on pharmaceutical companies, to ensure the ethical promotion of their products to healthcare professionals

European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations - EFPIA
EFPIA represents the pharmaceutical industry operating in Europe. Through its direct of 30 national associations and 45 leading pharmaceutical companies, EFPIA is the voice on the EU scene of 2,100 companies committed to researching, developing and bringing to patients new medicines that improve health and the quality of life around the world. In 2004 and 2007, EFPIA revised its European Code on the Promotion of Prescription only Medicines to, and interactions with, healthcare to ensure that pharmaceutical companies conduct their promotional activities in a truthful manner, avoiding deceptive practices and potential conflicts of interest with healthcare professionals, in compliance with applicable laws and regulations across Europe. The IFDA fully complies with the European Industry Code and especially with article 9 –Event and Hospitality- and 11 –Sponsorship of Healthcare Professionals-.
